In a significant move to uphold sports integrity and tackle illegal gambling, the Hong Kong Jockey Club (HKJC) hosted a delegation from the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) on Wednesday, May 22. The delegation, led by Executive Director Ghada Fathi Waly, engaged in discussions with HKJC officials about the pervasive nature of illegal gambling in Hong Kong and broader efforts across the region. During the meeting, HKJC representatives provided an in-depth briefing to Waly and her delegation, outlining the extensive scale of illegal gambling operations within the city. They also highlighted the Club's active role in supporting the Asian Racing Federation’s Council, which spearheads initiatives to combat illegal gambling across Asia. The UNODC delegation's visit included a tour of the renowned Happy Valley Racecourse, offering Waly a firsthand look at the Club's operations and its measures to maintain the integrity of horse racing. Waly commended the HKJC for its robust procedures aimed at safeguarding sports from corruption. "The Hong Kong Jockey Club has implemented significant measures to protect the integrity of sports," she remarked. "The UNODC is committed to collaborating with the Club to ensure that sports remain a bastion of fairness and integrity." Andrew Harding, the Club's Executive Director of Racing, expressed optimism about the strengthened partnership. "We are greatly encouraged by the support from the UNODC," Harding stated. "The visit not only fortifies the ties between our organizations but also underscores our mutual dedication to eradicating corruption and illegal gambling." The collaboration between HKJC and UNODC marks a pivotal step in the global fight against illegal gambling, reinforcing the commitment to maintaining the integrity of sports in Hong Kong and beyond.

HONG KONG — Fans of the beloved manga icon Doraemon are in for a treat this Saturday night as Victoria Harbour hosts the world's first drone show featuring the popular Japanese character. Organized by AllRightsReserved, the same group that brought the Double Ducks to Hong Kong last year, this 20-minute spectacle will commence at 7:30 PM, utilizing nearly 1,000 drones to depict various characters and tools from the Doraemon series. Local voice actors will also lend their talents to the event, enhancing the immersive experience. The drone show marks the beginning of the 100% Doraemon & Friends exhibition tour, a collaboration with Fujiko Pro, the company behind Doraemon, in celebration of the 90th birth anniversary of the manga's creator, Fujiko F Fujio. Hong Kong has the honor of being the first stop on this global tour. As a world preview, the drone show will set the skies of Victoria Harbour ablaze with images of Doraemon and his friends, offering enthusiasts a unique visual treat. The best viewing spot is along the waterfront at the Avenue of Stars in Tsim Sha Tsui. Here, spectators can expect to see iconic elements from the series, including the "Take-Copter" flying gadget and futuristic tools from Doraemon's "magic pocket," such as the "Anywhere Door." Organizers have advised that areas near Salisbury Garden will provide optimal views, while locations along the Hong Kong Cultural Centre may offer limited visibility. The event may not be fully visible from the Hong Kong Island side. "Please be reminded that certain areas between the Hong Kong Cultural Centre and the Hong Kong Museum of Art will be cordoned off on that day," they added. The Doraemon exhibition itself will open on July 13, featuring both free-entry zones and a ticketed exhibition area. Details about the exhibition and tickets, which will go on sale on the booking site KLOOK this Saturday, will also be announced. Ticket holders can look forward to redeeming exclusive items upon entry. Additionally, a "premium set" will be available, including a ticket, an acrylic pin set with a stand, and stickers. The Culture, Sports and Tourism Bureau has been a supportive partner for the exhibition tour, arranging for relevant administrative departments to provide additional support. A spokesman mentioned that the bureau has been actively involved in the publicity arrangements for this event, ensuring it receives widespread attention. In conjunction with these preparations, the bureau has updated the calendar of mega events in Hong Kong for the second half of the year, highlighting the significance of bringing such a unique cultural experience to the city. With the excitement building, fans and onlookers are eagerly anticipating a night of magical displays and heartfelt nostalgia as Doraemon and friends take to the skies over Victoria Harbour.
