In a significant move towards digital modernization, the Immigration Department (ImmD) announced today that it will implement mandatory electronic submissions for various visa application schemes starting January 17. This shift aims to streamline processes and enhance user convenience in an increasingly digital world.

Under the new policy, applicants for several key admission schemes—including the General Employment Policy, Admission Scheme for Mainland Talents and Professionals, Capital Investment Entrant Scheme, Training, Working Holiday Scheme, and Residence as Dependants—will be required to submit their applications electronically. The ImmD will no longer accept applications submitted in person, by post, or through drop-in boxes.

“This adjustment reflects our commitment to improving service delivery and promoting efficiency,” an ImmD spokesperson said. “By transitioning to electronic services, we are not only simplifying the application process but also ensuring a quicker response time for applicants.”

The eligibility and approval criteria for these admission schemes will remain unchanged, providing a sense of continuity for those seeking to navigate the immigration landscape. Applicants will be able to upload supplementary documents and inquire about their application status online, further enhancing the digital experience.

The ImmD’s electronic services enable applicants to manage the entire visa application process—from submission and payment to the collection of an “e-Visa”—all through the ImmD mobile application or its official website. This development eliminates the need for in-person visits to immigration offices, making the process more accessible and efficient.
