Officers of Yau Tsim Police District, together with officers of the Tactical Unit, the West Kowloon Regional Intelligence Unit, and the Immigration Department, launched an anti-illegal immigrant, anti-illegal worker, and anti-vice operation on October 24 and raided a number of locations in the district, arresting a total of 25 persons.
The Filipino woman was arrested together with 16 Mainland women, 2 Mainland men, 2 Indian men, 1 Bangladeshi man, and 3 Indonesians, ranging in age from 22 to 55 years old.
They were arrested on suspicion of “breach of condition of stay”, “remaining in Hong Kong without the authorization of the Director of Immigration” and “taking up employment in Hong Kong without authorization”.
All the arrested persons are being detained for investigation, and some of them will be referred to the relevant departments for follow-up.
According to Section 38AA of the Immigration Ordinance, Chapter 115 of the Laws of Hong Kong, illegal immigrants, persons subject to removal or deportation orders, and overstayers or refused immigrants shall not accept paid or unpaid employment, or establish or join in any business, and are liable on conviction to a maximum penalty of a fine of $50,000 and imprisonment for three years. An employer who employs a person who is not lawfully employable and who is an illegal immigrant, a person subject to a removal or deportation order, or an overstayer or a refused immigrant is liable to a maximum penalty of a fine of $500,000 and imprisonment for 10 years. Any person who violates a condition of stay in force against him is liable, on conviction, to a maximum fine of $50,000 and imprisonment for two years.
