Veteran broadcast journalist Mike Enriquez passes away at 71

GMA veteran broadcast journalist Miguel Castro Enriquez, professionally known as Mike Enriquez has passed away, reported on GMA news program 24 Oras. He was 71 years old.

In a statement, GMA shared, “It is with profound sadness that GMA Network announces the passing of our beloved Kapuso, Mr. Miguel ‘Mike’ C. Enriquez, who peacefully joined our creator on August 29, 2023.”

Enriquez is best known as a newscaster with GMA, reporting on the news and public affairs programs “Saksi,” “24 Oras,” “Super Radyo DZBB” and “Imbestigador,” the latter he hosted himself.

Born on Sept. 29, 1951, Mike started his career in broadcasting as a staff announcer at the Manila Broadcasting Company (MBC) in 1969.

He started his career in broadcasting as a staff announcer at the Manila Broadcasting Company in 1969. It began when he visited a friend in that company and accidentally discovered his interest in radio. He since worked in various positions, as a broadcast reporter, a news editor, program director, and station manager, until he became manager of a medium-sized radio network. He also had stints in other radio networks such as Freedom Broadcasting Radio Network and Radio Mindanao Network (RMN), where he became vice president of the company. He was the man behind the huge success of DWKC 93.9, which stayed in the number 1 spot for so many years before he left in 1995. He was the voice behind the Mellow Touch 94.7 signature and introduction.
