(Hong Kong) – Hong Kong residents will soon have a more robust portal for accessing critical local information right from their smartphones courtesy of an upgraded government app.
The Office of the Government Chief Information Officer (OGCIO) announced this week that version 3.1.0 of the “iAM Smart” digital identity app will launch next Monday with expanded features when opened by its over 2.3 million registered users.
In addition to existing services, the app will now display real-time data like weather, traffic conditions, emergency room wait times and locations of public facilities without any log-in needed – a boon for those occasional users yet to formally register.
“Since launching in late 2020, ‘iAM Smart’ has become a one-stop personalized platform,” an OGCIO spokesperson told the Times. “We aim to simplify registration and service usage to realize a true single online portal for all government eservices by 2025.”
Already supporting 300 offerings from authorities as well as utilities and transportation providers, the app fulfills its mission of keeping residents connected to important notifications and transactions even when away from internet connections or personal computers.
With busy urban life increasingly lived on the go, the always-available app ensures critical information needs are met wherever users may be, on any compatible iOS or Android device. Its upgrades reflect ongoing efforts to digitally empower citizens with convenient, reliable public access points.
