Super Typhoon Yagi is set to be downgraded to a No. 3 signal at 12:40 PM on Friday as it continues its westward trajectory away from Hong Kong, the Hong Kong Observatory announced.
In a statement, forecasters noted that Yagi’s path has shifted, allowing for a gradual easing of conditions in the region. “In the past few hours, Yagi continued to take a more westerly track and departed gradually from Hong Kong,” the observatory reported. “General winds over Hong Kong are expected to weaken gradually.”
Despite the downgrade, residents are advised to brace for lingering effects, as the storm is expected to bring squally showers and strong winds throughout the day.
The observatory had previously issued the No. 8 northeast gale or storm signal at 6:20 PM on Thursday, reflecting the severity of the storm as it approached the city.
As communities begin to recover and assess any damage, officials are urging caution, particularly in coastal areas where conditions may still pose risks. The observatory will continue to monitor the situation and provide updates as necessary.
