OWWA Offers Lifeline for OFW Dependents with Scholarship Programs

OWWA opens applications for scholarship program for OFWs, families

MANILA, Philippines – The Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA) has announced the opening of applications for its prestigious scholarship programs, offering a lifeline to the bright young dependents of active overseas Filipino workers (OFWs).

Starting November 4th, aspiring students can apply for the Education for Development Scholarship Program (EDSP) and the Congressional Migrant Workers Scholarship Program (CMWSP) for the 2025-2026 academic year. These programs provide critical financial assistance to qualifying Grade 12 graduates planning to enroll in local colleges and universities.

“This is a tremendous opportunity for the next generation of OFW families to realize their educational dreams,” said OWWA Administrator Maria Paz Banaag. “We’re committed to investing in the future of these bright young minds and helping them unlock their full potential.”

To be eligible, applicants must maintain a remarkable General Weighted Average (GWA) of 80% or higher, with no failing grades. For the CMWSP, the bar is set even higher at 85% GWA, as this program specifically supports students pursuing science and technology-related courses.

Families must also demonstrate financial need, with a maximum annual income equivalent to $2,400.

Successful scholars can receive up to 60,000 Philippine pesos per year to cover tuition and other educational expenses. OWWA emphasized the importance of active OWWA membership for OFW applicants, urging them to validate their status at the nearest regional office.

The application window will remain open until November 29th, 2024. Interested students are encouraged to submit their completed online applications through OWWA’s scholarship portal at scholarship.owwa.gov.ph.
