Minor accused of killing OFW in Kuwait gets 15-year prison sentence

Kuwait OFW Jullebee Ranara

A Kuwaiti court has sentenced to 15-year imprisonment a minor who was accused in the brutal murder of domestic helper Jullebee Ranara in January this year.

A Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) statement issued Thursday said that aside from a 15-year jail sentence from the murder charge, the minor was also sentenced to one year imprisonment for driving without license.

DFA said the punishment was lighter given that the accused is a minor.

The accused can still appeal the sentence within 30 days at the Court of First Instance.

“The family of the OFW has been informed and is grateful for the assistance provided to them (sic) by the government,” DFA said.

“The Philippine Government is similarly appreciative of the efforts undertaken by the Kuwaiti authorities to effect a speedy resolution of the case, in the pursuit of justice for our slain kababayan,” dagdag nito.

It could be recalled that last January, Jullebee’s charred remains were found in the desert with the 17-year-old son of her employer as suspect.

Kuwaiti authorities found in their investigation that Jullebee was raped and impregnated by the suspect.

Kuwaiti Minister of Foreign Affairs Sheikh Salem Abdullah Al-Jaber Al-Sabah vowed then to hold accountable the one behind the gruesome murder. (reported by Marlon Luistro)
