MassKara Festival in Bacolod

Bacolod City’s MassKara Festival from the Philippines, which has won numerous championships in the Bacolod Mask Festival Dance Competition, will be participating in the highly anticipated Chinese New Year celebration. After a five-year hiatus, the “Cathay International Chinese New Year Night Parade” is set to make a grand comeback in Tsim Sha Tsui on the first day of the Year of the Dragon (10 February). This event will add excitement to Hong Kong’s Chinese New Year atmosphere and mark the beginning of a series of Chinese New Year festivities.

Themed “World Party Great Celebration,” the Hong Kong Tourism Board (HKTB) is organizing the event, with Cathay as the title sponsor for the 22nd consecutive year. The parade will showcase the city’s vibrant energy through dazzling floats and a diverse lineup of international and local performances, capturing the spirit and drive of the dragon. This magnificent celebration, with its global flair, is a must-attend event for both locals and visitors alike.

Dr. Pang Yiu-kai, Chairman of the HKTB, expressed, “During Chinese New Year, Hong Kong buzzes with festivities, offering a wide array of exciting extravaganzas that entice visitors to experience the blessings of the festival firsthand. As a signature Chinese New Year celebration in Hong Kong, this year’s Night Parade will recreate the classic float carnival, featuring the largest number of international performing groups ever assembled. We have gathered some of the world’s most sought-after performers to spice up the celebration and transform this traditional festival into an international mega event.”

He further added, “We will also collaborate closely with our travel trade partners in various source markets to introduce tourism products with a Chinese New Year theme, enhancing visitors’ experiences with engaging activities. We invite them to revel in the festival and immerse themselves in the charm of our city, where East meets West.”

The HKTB parade will kick off a series of Chinese New Year celebratory activities in the city. Following the parade, the HKTB will continue to promote upcoming Chinese New Year events with various themes in global markets. These include the Lunar New Year fireworks display and the Chinese New Year Race Meeting 2024, which will take place on the second and third days of the Chinese New Year, respectively.
