Hong Kong to Host First Greater Bay Area Culture and Arts Festival

Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macau Greater Bay Area Culture and Arts Festival

For the first time, Hong Kong will welcome the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macau Greater Bay Area (GBA) Culture and Arts Festival, set to run from October 19 to November 24. This fourth edition of the festival promises to be a vibrant showcase of creativity, featuring over 100 programs that celebrate the rich cultural tapestry of the region.

Among the highlights is the opening program “Sound River,” alongside the innovative “ChoreoMusica Soiree,” a unique blend of music and motion, and the captivating dance drama “Wing Chun.”

Doreen Lau, chief manager for cultural exchange and pop culture at the Leisure and Cultural Services Department, emphasized the festival’s role in enhancing cultural collaboration among the 11 cities within the GBA. “The first characteristic is to collaborate with arts institutes and artists in the Greater Bay Area to co-produce programs performed in Hong Kong, showcasing the in-depth exchange and collaboration between Hong Kong and other GBA cities,” Lau said.

The festival’s theme, “Integration in Diversity – Power and Possibilities,” reflects Hong Kong’s identity as a dynamic hub where Eastern and Western cultures converge. Lau noted that the festival will also introduce cross-disciplinary performing arts programs, offering audiences fresh theatrical experiences.

In addition to local performances, the festival aims to promote Chinese culture by touring high-quality productions from Hong Kong arts groups to various GBA cities. “We encourage our artists and arts groups to collaborate with arts institutes and artists in the GBA area, bringing new productions to audiences both in the GBA cities and around the world,” Lau added.

As anticipation builds for this landmark event, the festival is poised to strengthen cultural ties, foster talent cooperation, and highlight the artistic vibrancy of the Greater Bay Area.
