MANILA, Philippines – The death toll from Severe Tropical Storm Kristine continues to rise, with the latest reports indicating at least 116 fatalities across the Philippines. The powerful storm has also displaced millions, with over 6.7 million individuals affected by the severe weather and flooding.

In an 8 a.m. situational update on Monday, the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) revealed the staggering scale of the destruction. A total of 1,662,416 families, or over 6.7 million people, have been impacted nationwide.

Of those affected, more than 560,000 people are taking refuge in evacuation centers, while another 418,668 have sought shelter elsewhere. The NDRRMC noted that 106 of the 116 reported deaths are still undergoing validation.

In addition to the fatalities, the storm has left 109 people injured and 39 others missing. Search and rescue operations remain ongoing in the hardest hit areas.

“The devastation caused by Kristine is truly heartbreaking,” said NDRRMC spokesperson Maria Dela Cruz. “Our teams are working tirelessly to provide aid and support to the millions of Filipinos impacted by this powerful storm.”

Kristine, known internationally as Trami, made landfall in the Philippines on Friday, unleashing torrential rains, powerful winds, and widespread flooding. The tropical storm has since weakened, but the effects continue to be felt across the archipelago nation.

Authorities have warned of the potential for further casualties and damage as recovery efforts continue in the days ahead. The NDRRMC urged residents to remain vigilant and heed all safety advisories from local officials.

“Our thoughts are with the victims and their families during this difficult time,” Dela Cruz added. “We will spare no effort in ensuring that everyone affected by Kristine receives the assistance they need to rebuild and recover.”
