A dangerous illegal drug marketed as “losing virginity water” is circulating in Hong Kong, raising serious concerns about sexual assault and public safety, according to a recent investigations.

Gamma-hydroxybutyric acid (GHB), a colorless and tasteless liquid, is being brazenly sold on messaging platforms like Telegram, with dealers explicitly targeting potential sexual predators. Vendors claim the substance can be discreetly mixed into drinks, rendering victims vulnerable.

Local pharmaceutical experts warn the drug can rapidly incapacitate individuals, suppressing the central nervous system and potentially causing respiratory failure. Dr. Dick Sung Ming-tat of the Pharmaceutical Society of Hong Kong emphasized that even small doses can be lethal.

“These drugs are extremely dangerous,” Sung stated. “Claims about safe consumption are completely false.”

Law enforcement is taking the threat seriously. The Customs and Excise Department confirmed increased collaboration with international agencies to intercept drug shipments. Trafficking can result in substantial penalties, including fines up to HK$5 million and potential life imprisonment.

Witnesses have reported disturbing incidents in local nightlife venues, with individuals rapidly becoming incapacitated after accepting drinks from strangers.

Experts and local citizens alike urge vigilance: avoid unsealed drinks, refuse beverages from unknown individuals, and immediately contact authorities if drugging is suspected.

The investigation underscores a growing challenge in combating sophisticated criminal networks exploiting digital platforms to distribute dangerous substances.
