The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) reported the tremor struck at 2:42 a.m. local time, with an epicenter located 35 kilometers off the coast of General Luna. The tectonic earthquake originated at a depth of 58 kilometers, sending vibrations through Surigao del Norte and surrounding regions.
Local authorities recorded moderate shaking in several municipalities, with General Luna, Del Carmen, San Isidro, Dapa, and Claver experiencing the most significant ground movement at Intensity IV on the seismic scale.
Phivolcs warned residents to expect potential aftershocks and urged local government units to conduct comprehensive damage assessments. The tremor’s reach extended beyond Siargao, with instrumental intensities detected in provinces including Surigao del Sur, Camiguin, Cebu, and Leyte.
