Hong Kong is pulling out all the stops for its 29th anniversary as a Special Administrative Region, with the government and community partners rolling out an expansive package of freebies, discounts and cultural access to mark the July 1 public holiday.
Residents and visitors can expect complimentary tram rides across the city from July 1 through July 3, joining a roster of transport perks that includes selected free or discounted ferry rides, dedicated Airport Express offers for eligible passengers, and a lucky draw granting access to 71,000 MTR domestic single-journey tickets.
On the retail and dining front, more than 1,000 restaurants and merchants across the city are expected to participate in promotional offers, making the anniversary weekend one of the most commercially active public holidays of the year. Public market deals and a 29% discount on selected Local Fresh products — a nod to the city’s 29th anniversary — are also on offer, alongside double GREEN$ Points for residents who participate in recycling programs.
Culture seekers will find no shortage of ways to mark the occasion. Free admission is being offered to selected Leisure and Cultural Services Department (LCSD) facilities, Hong Kong Wetland Park, as well as major contemporary institutions M+ and the Hong Kong Palace Museum — two flagship cultural landmarks on the West Kowloon waterfront that have become central pillars of the city’s arts identity since opening in recent years.
Beyond the deals, official celebrations will span all 18 districts and include a Flag Raising Ceremony, live performances and community variety shows that reflect the city’s diverse cultural fabric.
