Police Arrest Couple in Connection with a 25-Year-Old Domestic Helper’s Death in Aberdeen

Hong Kong police have arrested a married couple in connection with the death of a 25-year-old Southeast Asian domestic worker whose body was discovered at Waterfall Bay Park in Aberdeen, authorities announced late Tuesday.

The victim’s body, found early Monday, showed signs of blunt force trauma to the head and evidence of drowning, according to Senior Inspector Sam Sin Kwok-ming of the Hong Kong Island Regional Crime Unit.

Police arrested a 34-year-old foreign national with Hong Kong residency on suspicion of murder, along with his 36-year-old local wife for allegedly assisting the offender. The couple was apprehended at West Kowloon Station upon their return from mainland China via high-speed rail.

“The deceased had injuries ranging from 2 to 4 centimeters on her forehead and the back of her head, with minor damage to her limbs,” Sin told reporters during a press briefing. “Her belongings were intact, suggesting the assault occurred shortly before she was left in the water.”

Investigation revealed that the victim and male suspect took a taxi to the waterfall area around 11 p.m. Sunday. The suspect reportedly left the scene 30 to 40 minutes later. The victim’s body was discovered the following morning.

The victim, who had worked in Hong Kong for three to four years, was not employed by the arrested couple. Police are investigating the relationship between the deceased and the male suspect, as well as the motive behind the incident.

Sin cited the suspect’s behavior — including failure to report the incident, immediate departure from Hong Kong, and disappearance of evidence — as factors in classifying the case as murder. The male suspect has no known history of mental illness, and toxicology reports are pending.

The wife’s arrest stemmed from her swift departure with her husband, raising suspicions about potential involvement in aiding the suspect, authorities said.

The couple, residents of Ap Lei Chau, remains in custody as investigations continue.

Active investigation by the Regional Crime Unit of Hong Kong Island are underway.
