Aspiring runners looking to take part in the much-anticipated Standard Chartered Hong Kong Marathon can officially register from August 21 to August 30, organizers announced on Monday.
A total of more than 73,000 spots will be available through a lottery system for the marathon, half marathon, and 10-kilometer events scheduled for February 9, 2024. The annual race, one of Hong Kong’s premier sporting events, attracts around 70,000 participants each year.
The Hong Kong Marathon, sponsored by Standard Chartered Bank, features a challenging course known for its high humidity and difficult terrain, often resulting in slower finishing times compared to other major marathons. The course records, both set in 2019, stand at 2:09:20 hours for men, held by Kenyan runner Barnabas Kiptum, and 2:26:13 hours for women, set by Belarusian athlete Volha Mazuronak.
