A Filipina nurse who chose to stay with her elderly patient had a tragic ending as she was killed when gunmen shhot a bomb shelter in Israel amid the attacks by Hamas.
In a twitter/x post, Jerusalem Deputy Mayor Fleur Hassan Nahourn wrote that Angeline Aguirre showed “unimaginable honor in the face of evil.”
“Despite having the chance to flee the Hamas terror attacks,” Nahourn said Angeline “showed unbelievable humanity and loyalty by remaining Nira’s side during the violence, resulting in both of them being brutally murdered by Hamas.”
Aguirre is just one of two Filipinos whom authorities in the armed conflict between Israel and Hamas.
Aguirre was killed just months after she married.
The Department of Foreign Affairs has announced today that it has raised Alert Level 4 in Gaza. This means evacuation for Filipinos there is mandatory.
Given this, the DFA urged Filipinos to leave Gaza even as they promised to assist them in crossing Egypt.
DFA said there are 131 Filipinos in Gaza, with at least 78 of them now located near the Rafah border crossing near Egypt.
