The Philippine government is extending assistance to the families of two overseas Filipino workers who were killed by their employer in Beirut, Lebanon, the Department of Migrant Workers said Tuesday.

The victims, both long-time household service workers, were fatally shot during an incident on April 15 inside their employer’s residence, the agency said in a statement posted on social media. The employer has been arrested and is in police custody pending the filing of formal charges.

Migrant Workers Secretary Hans Leo Cacdac has directed senior officials to personally visit the victims’ families to provide immediate support and assure them of government assistance. Undersecretaries Bernard Olalia and Felicitas Bay have been tasked with leading the outreach efforts.

The department said its Migrant Workers Office is coordinating with the Philippine Embassy in Lebanon and local authorities to closely monitor the investigation and ensure that appropriate charges are filed.

“The Philippine government remains committed to securing justice for the victims and providing continued assistance to their families, including repatriation and access to benefits,” the agency said.

No further details about the victims or the circumstances surrounding the shooting were immediately available.
