MANILA — The Philippine Embassy in Bangkok has dismissed reports claiming that ten Filipinos died in the magnitude 7.7 earthquake that struck Thailand on Friday, calling the information “false.”

In a statement released on Saturday, the Embassy stated that it has not received any reports of Filipino nationals harmed by the disaster. “As of this time, the Embassy has not received any report of Filipino nationals who were harmed by this unfortunate disaster,” the advisory noted.

Philippine Ambassador to Thailand Millicent Paredes reinforced this sentiment in a radio interview, emphasizing that no Filipinos have sought assistance from the embassy in the aftermath of the earthquake. “In the 17 million population of Thailand, the majority reside in high-rise buildings. Fortunately, we have yet to receive information that they are affected,” Paredes said.

The Thai capital, Bangkok, has been declared an emergency zone following the quake, which originated from a more powerful magnitude 8.2 earthquake that struck Myanmar. This has raised concerns about potential impacts on communities across the border.

The embassy urged Filipino nationals in Thailand to stay informed through credible sources and to refrain from spreading “fake and unverified news.” It is committed to monitoring the situation closely for any developments that may affect Filipino citizens.

For those in need of assistance, the Philippine Embassy can be contacted via their Assistance-to-Nationals hotline at +66 81 989 7116 or through email at bangkok.pe@dfa.gov.ph.

As the situation unfolds, the embassy continues to prioritize the safety and well-being of the Filipino community in Thailand.
