Large-Scale Cannabis Farm Operation Busted in Fanling

Cannabis Farm Operation in Fanling

Hong Kong police have dismantled a sophisticated cannabis production facility in Ta Kwu Ling, seizing narcotics with an estimated street value of HK$20 million and arresting two suspects, authorities reported Tuesday.

Investigators from the Customs and Excise Department conducted a strategic raid on Monday at a three-storey house in Ping Yeung village, uncovering an elaborate indoor cultivation operation spanning five rooms across two floors.

Inspector Ng Ka-wai detailed the sophisticated nature of the operation, highlighting the specialized equipment used to optimize cannabis growth. “Each room was meticulously prepared with powerful sun lamps, light-blocking cloths, insulation materials, and specialized fertilizers,” Ng said during a press conference.

The seized cannabis plants and processed buds are estimated to be worth approximately HK$5 million, with the facility’s potential annual production capacity reaching up to 90 kilograms of cannabis buds.

Authorities arrested a 43-year-old woman at the scene and a 42-year-old man later that day in Yuen Long. Both suspects face charges of cannabis cultivation and drug trafficking.

The pair are scheduled to appear before a magistrate in Fanling on Wednesday, marking another significant blow to illegal drug production in the region.

The operation underscores ongoing law enforcement efforts to combat large-scale drug manufacturing in Hong Kong’s New Territories. (source: RTHK report)
