HONG KONG — The newly opened Kai Tak Sports Park is set to transform into a cultural hub this month, launching its first Art Week from March 21-27, promising a dynamic celebration of artistic expression across multiple disciplines.

Themed “Hundred Senses,” the event aims to transcend traditional artistic boundaries, offering visitors an immersive journey through contemporary and traditional art forms.

The weeklong festival will feature a comprehensive program, including two days of panel discussions bringing together prominent artists, architects, and cultural leaders. A centerpiece session, “AI, Human Collaboration, and Art Redefined,” will showcase Chinese sculptor Ren Zhe and artist Cheng Ran exploring the intersection of technology and creativity.

Nine workshops will provide hands-on experiences ranging from traditional Chinese ink painting to modern sculpture techniques. Highlights include Australian artist Dominique Sutton’s “Drawing in Steel” workshop and local artist Isis Shek’s Kintsugi session, which teaches the Japanese art of ceramic restoration.

A weekend artisan bazaar will showcase approximately 50 stalls featuring handcrafted goods, designer pieces, and live musical performances, adding a festive atmosphere to the cultural event.

Ten public art installations, strategically placed throughout the park, will offer visual narratives inspired by Kai Tak’s rich history. Notably, Ren Zhe’s “Nine Dragons” — a striking stainless steel and LED installation — and David Mesguich’s “The Transmission,” depicting an ancient Chinese football game, stand out as landmark pieces.

The art week forms part of Kai Tak Sports Park’s grand opening month, which includes sports tournaments, cultural showcases, and a food carnival. The Hong Kong Sevens rugby tournament is scheduled for March 28-30.

In a parallel development, Hong Kong’s Culture, Sports and Tourism Secretary Rosanna Law Shuk-pui met with Singapore’s Minister Edwin Tong Chun-fai to discuss potential cultural and sports collaborations.

Tickets and further details are available on the Kai Tak Sports Park official website.
