Immigration Arrests Trio Posing as Tourists

In a crackdown on illegal employment practices, the Immigration Department announced Friday the arrest of three mainland Chinese nationals who allegedly entered Hong Kong under the pretense of tourism to offer unauthorized photography services.

The suspects, a man and two women aged between 25 and 30, were detained after a sting operation where department officials posed as potential clients. The trio had been promoting their services on social media, advertising affordable wedding and street photography packages priced between HK$1,000 and HK$1,500.

The operation, which led to the seizure of smartphones and photography equipment, highlights ongoing concerns regarding illegal employment in the region. A department spokesman indicated that further arrests could be forthcoming as the investigation continues.

The Immigration Department reiterated the seriousness of employing individuals who are not lawfully allowed to work in Hong Kong. Under the Immigration Ordinance, employers found in violation could face a hefty fine of up to HK$500,000 and a maximum of 10 years’ imprisonment.

Authorities are urging the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities to help combat illegal employment practices.
