MANILA – In a heartfelt display of compassion and support, Department of Migrant Workers (DMW) officials, led by Officer-in-Charge Hans Leo J. Cacdac, greeted a group of 49 distressed overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) and 2 children as they arrived from Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. The emotional homecoming took place today at NAIA Terminal 1, where the weary travelers were met with open arms.

These OFWs, who have endured various difficulties abroad, received a much-needed boost as they stepped onto Philippine Airlines flight PR655. The DMW, recognizing their challenging circumstances, provided each individual with P50,000 in financial assistance. This gesture aims to alleviate their immediate financial burdens and offer a helping hand as they reintegrate into Filipino society.

Moreover, the Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA) demonstrated its unwavering commitment to the welfare of OFWs by taking care of their overnight hotel accommodations, as well as transit and transportation arrangements to their respective home provinces. By shouldering these expenses, the OWWA strives to ease the transition and provide a comfortable journey for these returning heroes.

The warm welcome and assistance extended to the distressed OFWs hold an even deeper significance, as the DMW celebrates its 2nd Founding Anniversary today, on December 30, 2023. This milestone serves as a reminder of the organization’s vital role in safeguarding the rights and well-being of Filipino migrant workers. It is a testament to their enduring commitment to providing aid and support to those in need.

The arrival of these OFWs marks a bittersweet moment – a homecoming filled with relief and joy, yet tinged with the challenges they faced while working abroad. Through the combined efforts of the DMW and the OWWA, these individuals can now embark on the next chapter of their lives with renewed hope and the knowledge that they are not alone.
