Celebrate Hong Kong’s 27th Handover Anniversary with more than 2,000 Restaurants Providing Delicious Discounts

Hong Kong residents are in for a tasty treat as the city celebrates the 27th anniversary of its handover from the United Kingdom to China. Starting July 1st, over 2,000 restaurants and merchants will be offering special spending and dining deals, thanks to the efforts of eight catering associations.

Catering constituency lawmaker Tommy Cheung Yu-yan is spearheading the celebrations, promising that some eateries will provide a 29% discount on customers’ bills. “I’ll be eating more than three meals that day,” Cheung joked, expressing his hope that even more establishments will join in the festivities.

Diners can look forward to significant savings at popular chains like Tai Hing Chinese BBQ, Café de Coral, and Maxim’s group restaurants. Gyu-Kaku, a Japanese barbeque restaurant, will offer a 29% discount on its Premium Wagyu 100-minute All-You-Can-Eat Set Dinner. Even convenience stores like Circle K are getting in on the action, with 29% off all fruit juices.

Some establishments, however, are holding back on overly generous discounts due to staffing shortages and a lack of mainland laborers. “They dare not to provide too many special offers since they are still understaffed,” Cheung explained.

Nevertheless, industry leaders are optimistic about the potential impact of these dining deals. Simon Wong Kit-Lung, chairman of the Quality Tourism Services Association, believes the offers will help attract mainland tourists, with more cities now included in the Individual Visit Scheme.

Other representatives hope the discounts will encourage locals to spend their money within Hong Kong, rather than traveling abroad. As the city celebrates its handover anniversary, these culinary offerings promise to satisfy the appetites of both residents and visitors alike.
