Two suspects were arrested and over $3 million worth of suspected cannabis products were seized by Hong Kong police in a major drug bust in Yuen Long this week.
Acting on intelligence, the police anti-triad unit conducted an operation in the district on Thursday, laying an ambush near a target building. Officers intercepted a 25-year-old man on Tak Yip Street and seized around 1,300 grams of suspected cannabis and 15 e-cigarettes believed to contain cannabis oil from him.
A subsequent search of the man’s residential unit on the same street uncovered a much larger haul. Police confiscated approximately 11.3 kilograms of suspected cannabis, 534 e-cigarettes suspected of containing cannabis oil, and drug packaging equipment.
A 20-year-old woman found in the unit was also arrested on suspicion of drug trafficking. Both suspects are currently in police custody assisting with the investigation.
The total estimated street value of the seized drugs was around HK$3.38 million (US$430,000), authorities said. The major bust is the latest in Hong Kong’s ongoing crackdown on the illicit drug trade in the region.
