The skies over Victoria Harbour in Hong Kong erupted in a stunning display of light and color on Monday night, as the city celebrated the 75th anniversary of the founding of the People’s Republic of China.
The 23-minute fireworks extravaganza, titled “Splendid fireworks shining over a prosperous China,” featured a staggering 31,888 pyrotechnic shells that illuminated the iconic harbor in a dazzling showcase of national pride.
Coordinated by the Culture, Sports & Tourism Bureau, the display was divided into eight captivating scenes that paid homage to China’s rich cultural heritage and symbolism.
The opening sequence featured a vibrant display of red five-pointed stars and purple five-petal flowers, setting the tone for the captivating spectacle to follow.
One particularly striking segment, known as “The Legend of Pandas,” showcased green fireworks depicting the beloved bamboo-eating bears – a nod to the two giant pandas gifted to Hong Kong by the central government just last week.
“Auspicious Treasures,” the seventh scene, showcased an array of mesmerizing ring-shaped fireworks, symbolizing the strong bonds and harmony among China’s diverse ethnic groups.
The grand finale, “The Magnificent Scenes of China,” concluded the display with a flourish of “Chinese Red,” “Big Whistle” and “Gorgeous Golden Crown” fireworks, conveying wishes for continued prosperity for the nation and peaceful lives for its people.
“It was a truly breathtaking display that captured the essence of China’s rich culture and history,” said local resident Emily Wong. “The fireworks were a spectacular way to celebrate this important milestone.”
As the last sparks faded into the night sky, the people of Hong Kong were left with a renewed sense of national pride and excitement for the future of their country.
