Niron Technology Limited and its director faced legal consequences today after pleading guilty to violations of the Employment Ordinance at the Kowloon City Magistrates’ Courts. The company was fined a total of $92,500 and ordered to pay approximately $630,000 in outstanding wages to eight employees.

The Labour Department (LD) revealed that Niron Technology willfully breached the ordinance by failing to pay employee wages and severance payments within the required seven-day period following contract termination. Additionally, the company neglected to provide annual leave payments to one employee within the statutory timeframe.

The director was also held accountable, found guilty of consenting to or neglecting these wage offenses. “This ruling sends a strong message to all employers and company directors: timely wage payment is non-negotiable under the law,” a spokesperson for the LD stated.

The department emphasized its commitment to enforcing labor laws and protecting employees’ rights. “The LD will not tolerate these offenses and will spare no effort in safeguarding employees’ statutory rights,” the spokesperson added, highlighting the ongoing efforts to ensure fair labor practices across the industry.
