Art Central, the annual international art fair, opens Wednesday at Central Harbourfront, promising a vibrant showcase of over 100 galleries from around the world.

Fair Director Corey Andrew Barr anticipates another record-breaking year, following last year’s attendance of 40,000 visitors. “We expect to see something similar this year, if not greater,” Barr told reporters.

Marking its 10th anniversary, the event introduces the innovative “Legend” gallery, dedicated to highlighting lesser-known artists from previous generations. A notable highlight includes a collection by Japanese “rainbow artist” Ay-O, presented by Whitestone Gallery.

“The Legend section is a new exploration for us,” said Inessa Li, art adviser at Whitestone Gallery. “We’re honored to introduce this excellent, talented artist to a broader audience.”

In collaboration with the Tourism Board, the fair features three artists who have created works inspired by Hong Kong’s distinctive neighborhoods: Central, Sheung Wan, Yau Ma Tei, and Sham Shui Po.

Curator Shirky Chan emphasized the event’s commitment to storytelling. “These artists capture the essence of each neighborhood through their unique artistic approaches,” Chan explained.

The cornerstone art fair runs through Sunday, offering workshops, installations, and performances that promise to engage art enthusiasts and casual visitors alike.

Admission details and full programming are available on the Art Central website.
