Philippines, Indonesia on migrant protection

The Department of Migrant Workers and Indonesian officials agreed to boost cooperation on migrant worker protection, the DMW announced Wednesday. Migrant Workers Officer-in-Charge led discussions with Indonesian counterparts to strengthen bilateral collaboration on issues affecting overseas workers from both countries.

The agreement comes as both the Philippines and Indonesia rank among the world’s largest sources of migrant workers, with millions of their citizens employed abroad in various sectors. The enhanced cooperation aims to improve protections and services for workers from both nations operating in overlapping labor markets across the Middle East, Asia and other regions.
