Trump Begins Second Term, Pledges ‘America First’ Agenda in Inaugural Address

United States President Donald Trump delivers his inaugural speech

WASHINGTON — Donald Trump was sworn in Monday as the 47th president of the United States, delivering a forceful inaugural address that emphasized his “America First” philosophy and outlined an ambitious agenda focused on economic nationalism and strategic isolationism.

Standing in the Capitol Rotunda amid frigid temperatures that moved the traditional outdoor ceremony indoors, the 78-year-old president renewed his commitment to protecting American economic interests and reducing foreign military engagements.

“The golden age of America begins right now,” Trump proclaimed, vowing to “put America first” in every policy decision. “We will be the envy of every nation, and we will not allow ourselves to be taken advantage of any longer.”

Trump, becoming only the second president in U.S. history to serve non-consecutive terms, signaled significant shifts in trade, military, and diplomatic strategies. He proposed sweeping measures including potential blanket tariffs on imports and a controversial plan to retake control of the Panama Canal.

The president outlined aggressive first-day actions, including declaring a national emergency at the southern border, deploying troops to stop illegal immigration, and initiating an energy policy focused on domestic production.

“We will ‘drill baby drill,'” Trump stated, announcing plans to withdraw from the Paris Climate Accord and declare a national energy emergency.

Vice President J.D. Vance was also sworn in, supporting Trump’s vision of a more inward-looking America that prioritizes domestic interests over international commitments.

Trump emphasized a military strategy centered on strength but minimal intervention. “We will measure our success not only by the battles we win, but also by the wars that we end,” he said, positioning himself as a “peacemaker and unifier.”

The ceremony, the first indoor presidential inauguration since Ronald Reagan’s second term in 1985, underscored the unconventional nature of Trump’s return to the presidency.

As he begins his second term, Trump continues to challenge traditional political norms, promising a revolutionary approach to governance that he describes as “common sense.”
