A Lamborghini sports car crashed into a restaurant in Macau’s Areia Preta district on Saturday, injuring six people after the driver apparently mistook the accelerator for the brake while parking, authorities said.
The accident happened around 2 p.m. when the dark gray vehicle, driven by a man in his 60s, plowed into the ground-floor eatery at Kwong Wa Building on Rua de Ma Kau Seak.
Several customers and staff were inside the restaurant at the time and could not avoid the impact, according to the Public Security Police Force of Macau.
Firefighters and paramedics responded quickly, providing first aid and transporting the injured to a hospital.
The victims, aged 37 to 75, included three customers, two restaurant employees and the driver. All suffered minor injuries and were reported in stable condition.
A preliminary investigation found the driver pressed the accelerator by mistake, causing the car to surge forward. He passed a breathalyzer test, eliminating alcohol as a factor.
Authorities are considering charges of negligent driving and causing bodily harm.
Photos and videos shared online showed the Lamborghini wedged inside the restaurant, with shattered glass from the entrance scattered on the floor and food and debris strewn about.
Local media reported the car is more than a decade old and was bought by the driver about a year ago.
