OWWA urges OFWs’ dependents to apply for scholarship programs

Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA)

MANILA — The Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA) is encouraging children and dependents of overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) to start gathering their documents as the application period for its scholarship programs is set to open soon.

In a Facebook post on Wednesday, the OWWA announced that the application window for the Education for Development Scholarship Program (EDSP) and the OFW Dependent Scholarship Program (ODSP) will run from July 26 to August 16, 2024.

The EDSP is open to OFW dependents who are current 2nd to 5th year college students, while the ODSP caters to those enrolled from 1st to 5th year of college or in an associate program.

To qualify for the EDSP, applicants must be incoming senior high school or college freshmen, no older than 21 years old, and have maintained a general weighted average (GWA) of at least 80% without any failing grades. For incoming freshmen, selection will be based on the results of the Department of Science and Technology’s national examinations.

Existing college students from 2nd to 5th year, aged 30 and below, with a GPA of at least 85% or a B letter grade, may also apply for the EDSP. Successful scholars can receive up to 60,000 Philippine pesos per school year until they complete their bachelor’s degree.

The ODSP, on the other hand, provides 20,000 Philippine pesos per school year to qualified dependents of OFWs earning a monthly salary of no more than $600 (around 34,000 Philippine pesos). Applicants must be enrolled, currently enrolled, or have been enrolled in a four-year or five-year baccalaureate or associate program.

Interested applicants are advised to visit their nearest OWWA Regional Office to learn about the documentary requirements and file their applications.
