King Charles Strips Prince Andrew of Royal Titles Amid Epstein Scandal

King Charles strips Andrew of royal titles

King Charles III has moved to strip his younger brother, Prince Andrew, of his royal titles and Windsor estate residence, marking a decisive break with the scandal-plagued royal following renewed scrutiny of sexual abuse allegations.

In a palace statement Thursday, officials confirmed that Andrew will henceforth be known simply as Andrew Mountbatten Windsor and must vacate his longtime home at Royal Lodge within the Windsor estate grounds.

The decision comes in the wake of Virginia Giuffre’s posthumously published memoir, which reignited public controversy over Andrew’s connection to convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein. Giuffre had previously accused Andrew of sexual abuse, a claim he consistently denied.

“These censures are deemed necessary, notwithstanding the fact that he continues to deny the allegations against him,” the palace statement read. The monarchy emphasized that their “thoughts and utmost sympathies” remain with abuse victims.

Andrew, 65, had already settled a civil sexual assault lawsuit with Giuffre in 2022, paying millions to resolve the case. Giuffre took her own life in April at age 41, while Epstein died by suicide in 2019 while awaiting trial on sex-trafficking charges.

Giuffre’s family celebrated the royal family’s decision, telling the BBC that “an ordinary American girl from an ordinary American family brought down a British prince with her truth and extraordinary courage.”

The palace indicated that Andrew will relocate to King Charles’ Sandringham estate in Norfolk and will receive financial support from the monarch.

This development represents the most significant public repudiation of Andrew by the royal family to date, effectively marginalizing him from official royal circles.
