Hong Kong has experienced a significant resurgence in tourism, recording over 18 million visits in the first five months of 2024, marking a 77 percent increase compared to the same period last year, the Hong Kong Tourism Board announced on Monday.
The tourism board’s statement highlighted a robust growth trend, with the city welcoming approximately 3.4 million visitors in March alone—a 20 percent year-on-year increase.
Mainland China continues to be the largest source of visitors to the Special Administrative Region (SAR), with 2.63 million mainland Chinese visiting Hong Kong in May, reflecting a 15 percent rise from the same period in the previous year.
Additionally, the number of non-mainland visitors saw a substantial increase, climbing 43 percent to approximately 770,000.
