Hong Kong Kicks Off Lunar New Year With Vibrant Night Parade

Hong Kong celebrated the arrival of the Year of the Snake with its annual International Chinese New Year Night Parade, featuring a spectacular display of cultural diversity and festive spirit.

Chief Executive John Lee launched the event on Wednesday evening, welcoming performers from 14 countries and regions who brought 55 unique performances and floats to the streets of the city.

“There is no better way, anywhere on earth, to welcome in the New Year than by following Hong Kong’s magnificent Chinese New Year Night Parade,” Lee proclaimed during the opening remarks.

The parade serves as a prelude to a series of upcoming celebrations, including a 23-minute fireworks display scheduled for Thursday night at Victoria Harbour. The display will feature auspicious symbols and a special tribute to Hong Kong’s growing giant panda family.

Following the parade, selected floats and performers will be featured at the Hong Kong Well-wishing Festival in Lam Tsuen, running until February 13.

The event underscores Hong Kong’s position as a cultural crossroads, blending traditional Chinese festivities with international flair.

“Kung Hei Fat Choi!” — the traditional Lunar New Year greeting — echoed through the streets as spectators celebrated the beginning of a promising Year of the Snake.
