Five Hong Kong Universities Rank Among World’s Top 100 Institutions

HONG KONG – Five universities in Hong Kong have once again proven their standing as global academic powerhouses, securing spots among the top 100 institutions in the world.

The latest Times Higher Education rankings saw the University of Hong Kong (HKU) hold steady at 35th place, while the Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK) made a remarkable nine-spot leap to 44th – its highest ranking ever.

The University of Science and Technology (HKUST) came in at 66th, the City University of Hong Kong (CityU) rose to 80th, and the Hong Kong Polytechnic University (PolyU) nabbed the 84th position.

This consistent performance underscores Hong Kong’s reputation as a hub of academic excellence, with its universities continuing to attract top talent and produce groundbreaking research.

“HKU consistently provides students with a top-notch education and is committed to being a world-class university in Asia,” the institution said in a statement.

CUHK’s president, Rocky Tuan, expressed pride in the university’s ascent, crediting the “dedication and excellence of every member” of the campus community, particularly in research and knowledge transfer.

HKUST acknowledged the latest rankings, pledging to build on its strengths in teaching, research, and industry collaboration. CityU, meanwhile, celebrated a perfect industry score, a testament to its strong ties with the private sector.

PolyU’s president, Teng Jin-guang, noted the university’s impressive performance in research-related indicators, reflecting “international recognition of [its] academic and research achievements.”

The rankings, compiled by the prestigious Times Higher Education magazine, evaluated nearly 2,100 universities across 115 countries and regions, solidifying Hong Kong’s position as a global leader in higher education.

While the University of Oxford retained its top spot for the ninth consecutive year, Tsinghua University in China emerged as the highest-ranked institution in Asia, followed closely by Peking University.

As Hong Kong’s universities continue to scale new heights, their success serves as a testament to the region’s unwavering commitment to cultivating world-class talent and driving innovation on a global scale.
