HONG KONG – Coldplay fans in Hong Kong were left disappointed and outraged on Monday as tickets for the iconic British rock band’s upcoming concerts quickly sold out, with scalpers reselling them at exorbitant prices.
The first batch of tickets for Coldplay’s three shows at the new Kai Tak Sports Park on April 9, 11, and 12, 2025 were snapped up in just 30 minutes after going on presale at 10 a.m. Prices ranged from HK$399 to HK$2,099, but were immediately marked up by unscrupulous scalpers.
Some resellers were offering four tickets originally priced at HK$1,299 each for a total of HK$12,000, demanding an initial deposit from buyers. Others listed four standing room tickets at HK$1,399 each for a staggering HK$9,000.
“It’s just so frustrating. I tried for over an hour to get tickets but they were all gone,” said Nina Wong, a 27-year-old Coldplay superfan. “And now I see them being resold for triple the price. It’s daylight robbery.”
The band’s upcoming Hong Kong shows will mark their first performances in the city since 2009. Fans had eagerly anticipated the return of the Grammy-winning group, known for hits like “Paradise,” “Viva la Vida,” and “The Scientist.”
Two more rounds of presale are scheduled for Tuesday and Wednesday, ahead of public ticket sales on October 10th. But with scalpers already circling, many concertgoers fear their chances of securing seats are slim.
“I really hope the organizers can do something to crack down on these scalpers and give true fans a fair shot,” said Wong. “This is such a letdown, but we’ll keep trying. Coldplay is worth it.”
