Filipino Worker Killed by Falling Debris After Drone Intercepted

MANILA, Philippines — A Filipino overseas worker was killed after Saudi air defenses intercepted an incoming drone targeting a major oil installation, Philippine officials confirmed late Thursday.

The attack, which occurred Wednesday at Saudi Aramco’s Shaybah oilfield, resulted in falling debris that killed two workers and injured two others, according to Saudi authorities.

The Philippine Department of Migrant Workers said in a statement that it had verified earlier reports from the Overseas Workers Welfare Administration confirming the worker’s death.

“The Department has reached out to the bereaved family, and is working with the concerned authorities, the worker’s company, and his co-workers to gather more information about the incident,” the agency said.

Officials added that the Migrant Workers Office in Al Khobar is coordinating legal aid, welfare support, and arrangements to repatriate the victim’s remains to the Philippines.

Saudi Arabia’s Ministry of Energy reported that the intercepted strike claimed the lives of both the Filipino worker and a Nepali national. Two other workers, identified as Pakistani and Indian nationals, sustained injuries from the scattered wreckage.
