The skies over Hong Kong’s iconic Victoria Harbour will come alive with a captivating display of around 1,000 drones on September 17th, as the city celebrates the upcoming Mid-Autumn Festival in dazzling fashion.
The 10-minute drone show, set to begin at 8 pm near the Wan Chai harbourfront, will feature the drones weaving together to form intricate images reminiscent of traditional mooncakes and lanterns. The highlight will be the drones’ transformation into a mesmerizing fire dragon, soaring across the night sky.
“This is going to be a truly spectacular celebration of Mid-Autumn Festival,” said a spokesperson for the Hong Kong Tourism Board. “The drone display will be a breathtaking sight, complementing the other vibrant festivities taking place across the city.”
The Tourism Board has recommended the Wan Chai HarbourChill and Water Sports and Recreation Precinct as the best vantage points for the public to witness the drone light show.
The festivities will extend beyond the drone display, with a captivating Fire Dragon Dance scheduled for three nights starting on September 16th in Tai Hang. A 67-meter dragon made of incense sticks will be led by 300 performers, accompanied for the first time by a 20-meter LED version carried by around 100 children.
“The Fire Dragon Dance is a recognized National Intangible Cultural Heritage event, and this year’s performance will be even more impressive with the addition of the LED dragon,” the spokesperson noted.
Visitors to Hong Kong can also look forward to a diverse range of celebratory installations and captivating live performances across the city’s streets, providing endless opportunities for memorable photos and immersive experiences.
The festivities will extend to Tung Lo Wan Road, with a live broadcast at Victoria Park, allowing even more people to join in the Mid-Autumn Festival celebrations.
“Hong Kong is renowned for its spectacular events and cultural festivals, and this year’s Mid-Autumn celebrations promise to be truly unforgettable,” the spokesperson concluded.
