Filipino Domestic Helper Arrested in Kai Tak for Alleged Child Abuse

Kai Tak Kai Long Court residence

A 27-year-old Filipino domestic helper was arrested Saturday morning in Hong Kong’s Kai Tak district on suspicion of child abuse, police said.

The arrest came after a woman reported that her 3-year-old daughter had unexplained bruises on her hands, back, and waist. Authorities responded to the call at approximately 11 a.m. local time on September 21.

Upon investigation, police believe the child was injured by the domestic helper, who allegedly used her nails to scratch the young girl. The incident reportedly took place at the family’s residence in Kai Long Court on Muk On Street.

The domestic worker, whose name has not been released, was taken into custody on charges of ill-treatment or neglect by those in charge of a child or young person. She is currently being held for questioning as the investigation continues.

The case has been transferred to the Sau Mau Ping Police District for further investigation.

The young victim was transported to Queen Elizabeth Hospital for medical treatment. Hospital officials reported that she was conscious upon arrival.
