In a significant step toward empowering overseas Filipino workers, 187 OFWs celebrated the completion of diverse upskilling programs Sunday at a ceremony held at the DMW-OWWA OFW Global Center.
The afternoon event, running from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m., marked a milestone for the graduates who dedicated their off-hours to enhance their professional and personal capabilities. The courses, offered by the Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA) Hong Kong, were specifically designed to equip OFWs with practical, marketable skills for career advancement and sustainable livelihood opportunities.
Graduates successfully completed training in a wide range of fields, including Barista skills, Basic Computer Literacy, Caring for the Elderly, Bridal Makeup & Styling, Basic Cantonese Language, Basic Massage Therapy, and Basic Manicure, Nail Art & Gel Nail application.
“The completion of these courses is a testament to the unstoppable spirit and determination of our OFWs,” stated OWWA Hong Kong in a release. “Despite demanding schedules, they invested in themselves, seeking new tools to build better futures.”
The ceremony underscored OWWA HK’s ongoing commitment to supporting its members beyond traditional welfare services. By providing access to relevant skills training, the agency aims to broaden the horizons for Filipino workers in Hong Kong, opening doors to new employment opportunities, higher income potential, and even entrepreneurial ventures.
“Today’s graduation is more than just a ceremony; it’s a launchpad,” OWWA HK added. “We assure our members of our continued support through various programs and services designed to empower them throughout their overseas journey.”
The initiative reflects a broader strategy to enhance the competitiveness and resilience of OFWs, recognizing their vital contributions to both the Hong Kong economy and the Philippines. By equipping workers with diverse, in-demand skills, OWWA HK helps foster greater financial stability and long-term success for the Filipino community abroad.
