Early Saturday morning, a luxury handbag store in Central was hit hard when 66 Hermès handbags, worth around HK$10 million, were stolen.
The police got the call about a break-in at the Ginza Xiaoma store in the New World Tower around 7:51 AM. CCTV footage captured three suspects who broke in and grabbed three large bags filled with handbags, making their escape in just five minutes.
The store staff confirmed that a total of 67 Hermès bags were taken, including sought-after models like the 25-inch and 30-inch Birkin bags, as well as the 25-inch and 28-inch Kelly bags. One bag was later found left behind on a back staircase.
The store, managed by a person named Chiu, is located on the 17th floor and had around 400 handbags in stock, both new and pre-owned, available for consignment and resale. Chiu noted that the stolen items included both store inventory and customer consignments.
The shop plans to reach out to affected customers soon and will compensate for any losses.
Sources indicated that the thieves parked their getaway car at the corner of Zetland Street and On Lan Street before using a freight lift to make their exit.
