The Hong Kong Rugby Sevens is poised for a record-breaking debut at the new Kai Tak Sports Park, with ticket sales surging and anticipation building for the March 28-30 tournament.
Organizers reported Monday that 43,000 tickets have been sold, representing over 90% of the venue’s 47,000-seat capacity. The surge includes 8,000 tickets sold in the past week alone, highlighting unprecedented excitement for the event.
“Our Hong Kong, China teams have reached great heights both on the world stage and in the neighborhoods across the city,” said Chris Brooke, chairman of Hong Kong, China Rugby. “We look forward to capitalizing on the new opportunities presented by Kai Tak for our community.”
The tournament marks a significant transition, moving from the longtime Hong Kong Stadium to the state-of-the-art Kai Tak facility. Only three-day passes remain available, priced at HK$1,950 per adult ticket.

Organizers anticipate a total attendance of 138,000 over three days, which would establish a new attendance record for the tournament.
Local teams will compete in the parallel Melrose Claymores competition. The men’s squad aims to defend their title, facing China and Japan, while the women’s team — last year’s runners-up — will challenge Kazakhstan and Thailand.
The event promises to be a landmark moment in Hong Kong’s rugby history, blending sporting excellence with a celebration of community spirit.
