PTIC-HK And BOI Showcase Philippine Investment Opportunities To Hong Kong Firms, Business Bodies And Commerce And Economic Authority

Hong Kong – The Department of Trade and Industry (DTI), through its trade and investment promotion arm in the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (SAR) and Macau SAR, the Philippine Trade and Investment Center – Hong Kong (PTIC-HK), conducted a series of meetings with Hong Kong firms, business organizations, and the commerce and economic authority on 12-13 September 2024. This initiative is part of the DTI and Board of Investments (BOI) business mission to China in 2024, led by Dr. Ceferino S. Rodolfo, Undersecretary of the Industry Development and Investment Promotions Group of the DTI, and Vice Chairman and Managing Head of the BOI. Dr. Rodolfo was joined by Atty. Roberto B. Mabalot, Jr., Vice Consul Commercial and Commercial Attaché of the PTIC-HK, Mr. Wilson Wong, Trade Assistant of the PTIC-HK, and Mr. Ernesto C. Delos Reyes, Jr., Director of the Investment Assistance Service of the BOI.

Some of the participating firms from Hong Kong SAR and Mainland China interested in expanding and strengthening their businesses in the Philippines included Polyard Petroleum International Group Limited, SF Express, China Harmony Auto Holding Limited, Luen Thai Group, HGC Global Communications, and the Bank of China. Discussions focused on investment opportunities in the logistics, renewable energy, electric vehicle, textile, telecommunication and financial sectors.

Additionally, Dr. Rodolfo met with Mr. Algernon Yau, Secretary of the Commerce and Economic Development Bureau of Hong Kong SAR, the agency responsible for the territory’s external commercial relations, to discuss investment and trade between Hong Kong SAR and the Philippines. They also explored the possibility of establishing a Joint Economic Committee, which would help strengthen trade and investment relations between Hong Kong SAR and the Philippines. Dr. Rodolfo further engaged with representatives from the Hong Kong General Chamber of Commerce (HKGCC), one of the oldest and largest business organizations in Hong Kong. These meetings aimed to enhance and strengthen the economic ties between the Philippines and Hong Kong.
