MANILA — The Philippine Health Insurance Corporation (PhilHealth) unveiled a comprehensive suite of expanded health benefit packages Friday, aimed at providing more accessible and affordable medical care for millions of Filipino citizens.

PhilHealth President Emmanuel Ledesma Jr. announced six groundbreaking initiatives designed to alleviate financial strain on patients and improve healthcare accessibility across the nation.

The most significant expansions include substantial increases in coverage for critical medical services such as heart disease treatment, kidney dialysis, and organ transplantation. Heart disease patients will now see percutaneous coronary intervention packages jump from PHP30,000 to PHP524,000, a nearly seventeen-fold increase.

“Our goal is to ensure timely access to life-saving services,” Ledesma emphasized during the state insurer’s first stakeholders meeting of the year. “We’re not just increasing numbers, we’re transforming healthcare affordability.”

Particularly noteworthy is the agency’s push for peritoneal dialysis as a primary treatment option. The new packages offer unprecedented flexibility, covering both adult and pediatric patients with comprehensive dialysis solutions that can reach up to PHP1.2 million in coverage.

The expanded benefits also introduce preventive oral health services and an innovative outpatient emergency care benefit, covering urgent medical interventions without requiring extended hospitalization.

Crucially, Ledesma assured members that these substantial improvements would not trigger premium increases, a promising commitment for healthcare consumers.

The comprehensive package represents a significant stride in Philippine healthcare, potentially reducing financial barriers for patients facing complex medical conditions.

As of January 1, PhilHealth has increased case rates for 9,000 packages by 50%, signaling a robust commitment to improved healthcare accessibility.

For patients and healthcare providers alike, these changes mark a pivotal moment in Philippine health insurance landscape.
