President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos, Jr. has tested positive for COVID-19, the Presidential Communications Office said in a statement Tuesday.
Because of this, upon medical advice the country’s chief executive will observe a period of isolation for five days.
Meanwhile the PCO said that “the president “remains fit to carry out his duties” and he will continue his scheduled meetings via teleconference.
Marcos likewise encouraged the general public during this holiday season to take precautions to safeguard their health such as vaccinating and voluntary wearing face mamsks when entering crowded places.
This was the third time Marcos tested positive for coronavirus since 2020. On July 8, 2022 – just a week after his inauguration – he spent a week in isolation and skipped a US Independence Day gathering at the US Embassy after he also tested positive for the virus.
He first caught the virus more than three years ago where he said in a statement he felt under the weather after taking a trip from Spain on March 13, 2020. Marcos was rushed then to an emergency room after experiencing difficulty in breathing. The Research Institute for Tropical Medicine confirmed his test result on March 28. (Marlon Luistro)
