Philippine Airlines is offering domestic travel discounts for overseas Filipino workers from Iloilo through July 31, partnering with the Overseas Workers Welfare Administration to recognize the region’s significant migrant worker population.
The pilot program provides OFWs originating from Iloilo with discounts ranging from 5% to 10% on domestic flights, depending on ticket class. Economy Saver tickets receive a 5% discount with 10-kilogram baggage allowance, while Economy Value and Economy Flex tickets offer a 10% reduction and 20-kilogram baggage allowance.
Leonard Bryan Sansolis, PAL’s regional sales head, described the initiative as “a labor of passion” and suggested potential expansion based on the program’s initial results. Region 6, which includes Iloilo, has approximately 400,000 overseas workers, with 30,019 OFW departures recorded in 2024.
To qualify, workers must present valid documentation such as an Overseas Employment Certificate, employment certificate, or seaman’s book. The discount cannot be combined with other promotional offers for seniors, persons with disabilities, students, military personnel, or athletes.
OWWA-6 Officer-in-Charge James Mendiola highlighted the region’s significance, noting it has “one of the largest OFW deployments” and an established sea-based training infrastructure.
Tickets can be purchased at the PAL office in Iloilo or through authorized local agents. The program runs until July 31, allowing the airline to evaluate its feasibility for potential broader implementation.
