MTR to Suspend Kwun Tong Line Service Between Prince Edward and Ho Man Tin Next Sunday

In a major disruption to Hong Kong’s public transit system, the MTR Corporation announced that there will be no train service on the Kwun Tong Line between the stations of Prince Edward and Ho Man Tin this upcoming Sunday, July 28.

The suspension is necessary to facilitate large-scale tunnel asset renewal work, the transit operator said in a statement released Monday. During the daylong closure, trains will run only between the stations of Tiu Keng Leng and Prince Edward, as well as between Whampoa and Ho Man Tin.

Despite the service suspension, the affected stations – Prince Edward, Mong Kok, Yau Ma Tei and Ho Man Tin – will remain open and accessible to passengers. Commuters will be able to use the Tsuen Wan and Tuen Ma lines to reach these stations.

To help mitigate the disruption, the MTR has coordinated with Kowloon Motor Bus (KMB) to provide complimentary bus services connecting Yau Ma Tei to Ho Man Tei and Whampoa, covering the entirety of Route 8 and part of Route 30X.

“We advise passengers to seek alternative routes on that day and express our gratitude for their understanding,” the MTR statement said.

The planned service suspension underscores the ongoing efforts by Hong Kong’s transit authorities to maintain and upgrade the city’s aging rail infrastructure. Commuters are bracing for potential delays and overcrowding as they navigate the temporary service changes.
