The Hong Kong government officially opened the new Robin’s Nest Country Park (RNCP) on Monday, touting its scenic beauty and rich biodiversity as a boon for ecological conservation and integration with the neighboring Shenzhen region.
The 25th country park in Hong Kong, RNCP is located in the northeastern New Territories and forms an ecological corridor with the adjacent Shenzong Wutong Mountain Scenic Area across the border in Shenzhen.
“The establishment of Robin’s Nest Country Park is a significant milestone in the ecological integration of Hong Kong and Shenzhen,” said Secretary for Environment & Ecology Tse Chin-wan at the opening ceremony. “Its beautiful scenery and abundant wildlife will be a tremendous asset for conservation efforts and public enjoyment.”
Joining Tse in officiating the ceremony was Shenzhen Deputy Secretary-General Chan Yaodong, who expressed hope that the two cities would deepen cooperation on issues like climate resilience, urban planning, and technological innovations for the environment.
To celebrate the park’s launch and the 75th anniversary of the founding of the People’s Republic of China, the Hong Kong government has also unveiled a new hiking challenge for the public. From now until February 28, 2025, participants can register online to visit eight checkpoints along the park’s hiking trails, scanning QR codes to record their progress.
Those who complete a certain number of checkpoints will receive themed prizes, while the Hong Kong Country Parks YouTube channel will also feature a new video series highlighting the park’s natural wonders.
“This new country park is a testament to Hong Kong and Shenzhen’s shared vision for a greener, more sustainable future,” Tse said. “We encourage everyone to come explore the beauty of Robin’s Nest and be part of this exciting new chapter.”
