Hong Kong Tourism Board to hold series of Mid-Autumn Festival events

Hong Kong Tourism Board (HKTB)

The Hong Kong Tourism Board (HKTB) announced Monday an array of enhanced Mid-Autumn Festival events designed to captivate both visitors and locals alike, blending traditional customs with modern spectacles.

In a significant upgrade to the iconic Tai Hang Fire Dragon Dance, the route will be extended from Wun Sha Street to Tung Lo Wan Road. The highlight of this year’s performance will feature approximately 100 children wielding a fire dragon illuminated by 10,000 LED lights, creating a dazzling fusion of ancient ritual and contemporary technology.

For those unable to attend in person, a live broadcast area will be established in Victoria Park from September 16 to 18, allowing more people to experience the festivity remotely.

Taking the celebrations to new heights, a Mid-Autumn Festival-themed drone show is scheduled for September 17 at the Wan Chai waterfront. The aerial display will showcase traditional symbols associated with the festival, including the Jade Rabbit, mooncakes, and lanterns, painting the night sky with vibrant imagery.

To immerse the entire city in the festive spirit, the HKTB revealed plans for widespread decorations featuring fire dragons. These installations will be strategically placed throughout Hong Kong, including along the popular Central-Mid-Levels Escalators, on MTR digital displays, and adorning two trams.

This comprehensive approach to the Mid-Autumn Festival celebrations demonstrates Hong Kong’s commitment to preserving cultural heritage while embracing innovative presentation methods, potentially boosting tourism and fostering community engagement during one of the most significant festivals in the Chinese calendar.

As Hong Kong continues to position itself as a premier destination for cultural experiences, these enhanced festivities are expected to draw increased attention from both domestic and international audiences, reinforcing the city’s status as a vibrant hub of traditional Chinese culture.
